ABOUT ME

Originally from Japan, I have had the opportunity to study in Switzerland and the United States, experiences that have exposed me to different cultures, education systems, and ways of thinking. My international background has shaped my interest in languages and cross-cultural communication and has taught me to appreciate the different perspectives people bring to a community.

My international journey began at an international school in Switzerland during elementary school, continued through boarding school in Connecticut, and later brought me to Stevenson School in California. Each environment has been different, and moving between them has taught me how to adapt to new surroundings while remaining open to learning from the people around me.

One of my more recent experiences was spending a month living with a French host family in Rennes. Communicating in French every day challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and become more comfortable making mistakes and learning through experience. I especially enjoyed experiencing everyday life in a large family and forming connections across language and cultural differences. It became one of my most meaningful experiences and strengthened my confidence and independence.

Academics

I am currently a 10th-grade student at Stevenson School, where I enjoy exploring subjects that deepen my understanding of people, cultures, and the world around me. I have developed a particular interest in French and history and continue to challenge myself through advanced coursework. My academic interests are closely connected to my curiosity about different cultures and perspectives, and I enjoy learning how language, history, and society shape the way people understand the current state of the world.

Things I Enjoy

Music has been a constant part of my life. I have played the violin since the age of three and currently participate in the Strings Orchestra. After years of practice, I have learned the importance of patience, discipline, and consistency. Music has become both a creative outlet and an activity that continues to challenge me to improve.

I also enjoy staying active through Junior Varsity Lacrosse, Junior Varsity Golf, basketball, and recreational golf. Being part of team sports has strengthened my communication, collaboration, and ability to adapt to different situations, while also teaching me the importance of supporting others. Golf provides a different challenge, requiring focus, patience, and personal responsibility. Together, music and athletics have helped me develop perseverance, confidence, and a balanced approach to both individual and team challenges.

What I Am Learning About Myself

As I continue through my high school journey, I am becoming more intentional about the person I want to be and the values I want to carry with me. I have learned that growth is not always about achieving the perfect result; it is also about responding to challenges, learning from mistakes, and continuing to move forward.

I have always been drawn to experiences that push me beyond my comfort zone. With curiosity and an open mind, I embrace new responsibilities and unfamiliar environments as opportunities to discover what I am capable of and gain a deeper understanding of the world around me. These experiences have strengthened my confidence, resilience, and ability to adapt when faced with the unexpected. Looking ahead, I hope to turn my passion for languages, education, and global perspectives into meaningful opportunities to contribute, lead, and continue growing both personally and professionally.
